Welcome to Shinbushido Academy an online learning platform for martial artists!
Our goal is to spread traditional Bushido ethics, spirituality and philosophy by creating educational courses (shugyo) to be coupled with independent martial arts practice (gaku).
While many martial arts academies around the world focus on the physical aspects of martial arts, many martial arts masters of old strongly believed that physical training in the martial arts must also be tempered by spiritual and educational development as well. Even Jigoro Kano, former college professor and the founder of Judo, stated in regards to martial arts:
"I would says that it is an art the makes use of both the mind and body to the best possible advantage,"
-The Principles of Jujutsu, Jigoro Kano
Our courses cover a wide range of subjects related to martial arts including ethics from classical works such as The Art of War, Hagakure, Book of Five Rings as well as touch upon spiritual and philosophical works related to Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism and Shintoism with more and more courses being added as time goes on. These courses can be taken in any order and designed so that any dojo can require courses of their choosing within their martial arts curriculum for promotion if they so choose or be taken independently for your own edification.
